PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION

PAPER PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION

Prospective authors are invited to submit the abstract of full-length original research papers, which are not submitted, published, or under consideration anywhere. One participant can submit and present up to two papers. All proposals will undergo a double-blind review by at least two expert reviewers. Selection of papers for presentation in the conference is based on these reviews and final decision by the conference organizing committee.

Abstract

Authors could submit abstracts of research/ review paper in English or Turkish formatted as defined.

An informative abstract should not be the introduction which is the first section of paper, instead, it provides the reader with a clear description of your study and the results without the reader having to read the entire paper. An English abstract is required for all papers.

Full Paper

Since the conference presentations are max. 20 minutes in length, participants are expected to submit a short length full paper between 6- 12 pages (2,000-4,000 words). The text needs to include the following: (i) abstract, (ii) introduction, (iii) body of the paper (with local/decimal numbering of subheadings), (iv) conclusion, and (v) references/ Bibliography. English abstract must be submitted for papers written in Turkish. On a first sheet, please state the following: title of the paper, name(s) of author(s), affiliation and contact information. The file should be sent to israiliyat.com@gmail.com. Upon acceptance for presentation at the conference, the authors will be asked to submit their full text or/and research article by conference date. Full text will be published in the books titled Proceeding and Abstract Book of the Fifth International Conference on Israel and Judaism Studies 2021.

Due to becoming interdisciplinary conference there are no strict requirements on text formatting especially reference formatting at submission. References can be in any style or format as long as the style is consistent. Where applicable, Author(s) Name(s), Journal Title/ Book Title, “Book Chapter Title”/”Article Title”, Place/year of publication, volume number/ issue nuber and pagination must be present. Any methods of citation (in-text/parenthetical or footnotes/ endnotes.) can be used in a paper. We gently advise authors the use of Chicago Style for formatting.

Research Article

A full length research article manuscript might be written in the range of 4,000-10,000 words to be published as a research article in Israiliyat journal or as a book chapter in edited book. Research paper should be at least 50% different from the conference full paper.

VIRTUAL PRESENTATION PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION

ICIJS will offer opportunities for two (2-way or 1-way) forms of virtual participation: (i) online academic presentation using synchronous/real-time video conferencing solutions (Google Meet ) and (ii) pre-recorded/asynchronous presentation using Asynchronous recording solutions.

Virtual conferences may substantially change the number and distribution of the participants because virtual conferencing makes attendance possible for people who have financial, family-related (caring commitments), physical (disability), health (Virus) and political (passport, visa) constraints.

A communication platform provides one or more communication channels that can be categorized along four dimensions: synchrony (sync/async), directionality (1-way/2-way), scale (1-1/ groups- means that there is privacy or there is society's right to know), and content (text, image, audio, and video).

As you know, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, most meeting locations are still closed and meetings are rescheduled online. For this reason, the conference organizing committee decided to the organize the Autumn conferences to a virtual format on December 06-10, 2021. While first three conferences had been organized as a hybrid event by combining presentations, mostly traditional "live" face-to-face, with online components, few of which are "virtual", last meeting was organized entirely in virtual format. This year, we will transfer our annual meeting held indoors to the new virtual conference. In the event that everything returns to normal, we can organize the hybrid meeting again.

While we know that virtual conference will not replicate the face-to-face interaction of a conventional conference talk and Q&A, we hope that it will promote lively discussion and help build a community of scholars with intersecting research interests. Accessibility advantages to this approach is that:

A) similar to İsrailiyat open-access journal, the conference archive (both prerecorded or recorded live talks with Q&A) will be open to the whole scientific community and public use.

B) talks can be viewed at any time and text-based Q&A sessions can be extended over multiple weeks.

C) talks can be closed captioned in Turkish as well as English, opening up the possibly of a true bilingual conference.

We advise for all virtual presenters, even those who want to make live video conference to submit their presentation recording to us by December 06, 2021. For those who would like to use of pre-recorded presentations we will then review the recordings to ensure there are no technical issues and suggest possible ways to improve the quality of the recording if needed. For those who want to make live video conference, we will move them into archives for alternative options as a precaution in the case of any technical issues during the sessions.

The time of the online presentations will be announced on the vICIJS website. Be online 15 minutes before your session, in order to check the internet connection and to make necessary changes (volume, light, speed etc.). To participate, you need a computer with a webcam, a high-speed Internet connection and a microphone. A 30-minute presentation slot at an the conference could be divided into three parts: (i) 20 minutes for the virtual talk itself, (ii) 7 minutes for questions and discussion, and (iii) 3 minutes for changing rooms or for new presentation.

All presenters are reminded that their presentations will be live streamed and recorded. This is so that other conference participants and guests can watch these remote talks either in real time or later. Also the session recordings would be made publicly available through ICIJS YouTube channel.

Authors of the accepted proposals will have online support in October 2021 to learn how to record their videos for the conference using regular computer or cell phone cameras, and learn how to subtitle presentations using free software.
